The Byzance Polyphonic series from Meinl Cymbals has made quite an impression to all drummers for the various richly nuanced textures that these cymbals bring to the drum kit, thanks to their raw, unlathed bell plus lathed body combination. While the crashes, rides, and splashes are smooth and a little subdued, these Byzance Polyphonic hi-hats have a touch of attitude! Their stick definition is tight and defined, and their 'chick' sound sits forward in a mix without being overbearing. However, play them half-open, or play a foot splash, and that's when their Byzance Polyphonic character really comes through. This darker sound is due to a finishing process that limits the high end as the cymbal is buffed to its brilliant look. Heavier models penetrate with directness, thinner ones shimmer with warmth. The overall combination of dark tonality and warm spread make Byzance Brilliant a great choice for everything from funk and fusion to rock.
