Description
The VXS series “S” model subwoofers are an ideal match for VXS and VXC series speakers, smoothly extending the low-frequency range with outstanding sonic quality for bigger, more lifelike music reproduction. While no bigger than a compact surface-mount speaker, the VXS3S provides solid, natural-sounding low-end gain, while the VXS10S and VXS10ST make lower frequency power available for situations that require maximum bass authority.
Features
Choice of Models for All Low Frequency Needs
Luxurious bass response can enhance musical presence and realism in a big way. Yamaha offers the VXS3S for smoothly expanded low-end power, and the VXS10S and VXS10ST for applications that require maximum bass impact. Choose the model that best fits the system size and full range of speakers used.
Low Frequency Boost Method
A number of methods are used to improve the low frequency response in speaker enclosures. In a bass reflex design, a tuned port on the enclosure boosts low frequencies coming from the rear of the speaker assembly. The VXS10S adopts this method, which specializes in more powerful low-frequency reproduction. The problem with this approach is that as the enclosure gets smaller or thinner, the port size has to be reduced accordingly, resulting in an increase in resistance as well as a corresponding increase in bass. The bass reflex design is not always suitable for compact enclosures.
The passive radiator design avoids using ports, instead enhancing bass response with a passive "drone cone". The passive radiator method is better suited for compact enclosures, but passive cones tend to be unwieldy, requiring a firm, durable suspension that can reduce efficiency. The directivity of passive radiators also places limitations on where and how the system can be installed.
The original Yamaha SR-Bass™ technology used in the VXS3S suspends the four-sided diaphragm on only one side, using diaphragm resonance to enhance the system's low-frequency output. There are no limitations on the shapes and materials used for the diaphragm, making SR-Bass™ technology applicable to a wide variety of speaker designs, including compact models.
Yamaha offers 2 options. That's the compact VXS3S and the powerful VXS10S. Please select the best model for your application.
Satellite Connector Optimizes Balance
The VXS3S and VXS10S feature satellite connectors on the rear panel, minimizing the number of amplifier channels needed to get the system up and running. And because the VXS3S and VXS10S support high-impedance connections, it's possible to connect a low-impedance satellite while the subwoofer is connected to a high-impedance system, for example. A built-in high-pass filter is automatically applied to the satellite speakers, providing a very smooth, natural frequency crossover from the subwoofer to the satellite.
Flexible Installation Options
In addition to the supplied wall-mount hardware, a variety of optional hardware allows the VXS “S” series models to be mounted in a number of ways. The VXS10S can be placed on the floor or mounted on a wall or ceiling, while the VXS3S also allows flush ceiling installation.
