Bring Home an American Classic
You know the sound. You know the look. Now's your chance to own the real deal: the Ludwig Classic Maple snare drum. The Classic Maple's heirloom appointments and throwback finishes are a treat for any die-hard Ludwig collector. Yet players of all stripes, young and old, will enjoy this snare's fat attack and bold tone. The secret to the Classic Maple's impressive playability starts with Ludwig's time-honored American drum making traditions. The 7-ply maple shell is selected and formed by hand right here in the USA, just as Ludwig snares have been for the past century. What's more, this Classic Maple's P88 throw off provides a level of snare customization that session vets are sure to get a thrill out of.
Handcrafted in Monroe, NC
The same traditions that have gone into Ludwig snare drums since 1909 continue to shape the Classic Maple snare line. Every Ludwig Classic Maple snare drum begins life as seven plies of hand-selected North American maple. Shells are formed by skilled hands at Ludwig's facility in North Carolina, USA, and tested to meet real-world gigging conditions. Crowned with 45° edges and 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops, the Classic Maple snare is a recipe for great tone and a great time in any performance setting.
Straight out of the Ludwig golden era
Ludwig holds claim to some of the most recorded, toured-with, and sought-after drum sounds in the industry. The Classic Maple snare line celebrates the golden era of Ludwig snares with some collectible appointments, including Small Bowtie lugs, a Brass Cast Keystone badge, and a set of Ludwig Weather Master heads, along with a modernized P88 throw off for rock-solid snare performance.
Each drum's bearing edge is cut to a 45-degree angle within 1/16" from the outside edge. This sharp edge is hand-sanded to the craftsman's touch to assure a smooth, even, flat surface for easy head seating; the final touch to complete the unmistakable Ludwig Sound. Classic Maple's standard 7-ply, 6mm shell is formulated for optimum resonance and tonality. Its center three-ply core panel (laminated in a horizontal/vertical/horizontal grain bond to a 2.4mm thickness,) is inserted between inner and outer two-ply panels through our proprietary RFST molding process. To increase stability through out the drum, all Ludwig USA shells are produced using Radio Frequency Shell Technology. Using a process involving our original bladder molds, R.F.S.T.'s unique bonding system -combined with a specialized, time-tested adhesive- cures each shell evenly over the entire surface of the shell. This process is truly a principal ingredient in creating the "Ludwig Sound" in every shell we make.
