Yamaha's THR5 and THR10 compact guitar modeling combos are among the most popular home machines for their great sound and flexibility. These are 10-watt combos that bring the sound and feel of big tube amps/combos into your living room, even at normal room volume. Thanks to the collaboration of developers from the company's guitar and audio/hi-fi sections, the machines are capable of capturing even subtle sonic nuances (Virtual Circuity Modeling technology), far exceeding conventional digital simulations. The special design of the two three-inch speakers allows the audio tracks (played via Aux In or USB interface) to be reproduced in stereo hi-fi sound while working with the guitar signal so that both sounds sound together in perfect harmony.
The THR5A offers five simulated sounds and different microphone pickups optimized for the needs of electroacoustic guitars and classical electroacoustics (EG CLN, Nylon, Tube, Dynamic, Condenser. Blend/Gain, Master and Tone potentiometers are used to shape the sound. The two effect section controls offer the necessary sonic spice in the form of integrated chorus, delay, reverb and compressor effects, which can be extended with the THR Editor app to include a handy noise gate and flanger, phaser and tremolo effects. The THR Editor is available for download on Yamaha's website and can be used to make in-depth adjustments to individual simulation and effect parameters.
Thanks to the USB interface (and the included USB connector), you can record directly to your PC/laptop and edit tracks in Cubase AI, which is also included. The combo also includes a built-in chromatic tuner, tap tempo function (delay effect control) or a handy headphone output. The practicality of the combo is underlined by the possibility of power supply with the included adapter and batteries, so you will always have your favourite instrument at hand. The icing on the cake is the backlighting of the combo simulating the glow of the tubes of tube instruments.
