Who says an acoustic guitar can’t be metal? Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine and Gibson have collaborated on the company’s first-ever 24-fret acoustic guitar: the Dave Mustaine Songwriter. This signature model is a technical and artistic masterpiece with bold metal aesthetics, including a Vic Rattlehead headstock inlay, teeth fingerboard inlays, a Rattlehead skull-chain design on the pickguard, and a truss rod cover with Mustaine’s signature in cursive print. And with its unique 24-fret ebony fingerboard, walnut body with a deep cutaway, sitka spruce top, and chrome hardware like Grover Rotomatic tuners (that won’t rust in peace), this guitar’s sound matches its bold looks and then some. Sweetwater metalheads are excited to see this long-awaited collaboration finally come to life.
Not willing to live with fewer than 24 frets, Dave Mustaine challenged Gibson’s engineers to build an acoustic guitar with an extended fingerboard. Gibson answered this challenge and took no prisoners. After weeks and weeks of testing the design, collaborators settled on advanced new scalloped X-bracing that preserved high, mid, and low response across all 24 frets. The company's team was so pleased with the results that this bracing feature will now be standard on any future extended-scale Gibson acoustic. Whether you’re playing down by the headstock or in the cutaway on the upper frets, you’ll find this bracing feature delivers exceptional sustain, clarity, and frequency response.

A symphony of tone
The Dave Mustaine Songwriter's premium tonewoods are blended and matched for tone that can range from strong to sweet with enough firepower for even the most discerning Megadeth aficionados. Walnut back and sides deliver a round tonal response that's akin to mahogany but with warmer bass and crisper highs and mids. Paired with a highly playable Advanced Response mahogany neck that’s balanced up and down the fingerboard, a sitka spruce top rounds out this symphony of tone with a touch of brightness and snap. The body is balanced and slim with a classic Gibson feel that’s plays comfortably in any position. Perfect on its own or accompanying the heaviest of riffs, the Dave Mustaine Songwriter is an acoustic force to be reckoned with.
